Genshin Impact (2020) (Watching Partner Play 2.0-2.8)
Action Roleplaying Game
3.5/5

Does this count as playing a game? I think it does.

Books

Yokohama Shopping Log (1994)
Healing-Type Sci-Fi Manga
Mangaka: Hitoshi Ashinano
Finished: April 22
4/5

I really enjoy this manga! It's super sweet and moving even though it's pretty episodic. The story being about the "twilight of humanity" but portraying the wholesome relationships between all the human and robot characters was interesting. It's both beautiful but also anxiety inducing.

OVAs

Yokohama Shopping Log (1998)
Healing-Type Sci-Fi Anime
Director: Takashi Anno
Finished: April 22
3.5/5

This OVA was just the chapters of the manga animated. I really enjoyed how realistically the characters moved and the voice acting. I don't know if I liked the slow pace though? It feels more tense than relaxing. I liked the manga more because I have control over the pace of the story.

TV Shows

Witch Hat Atelier (2026) (Ep 1-6)
Fantasy Anime
Director: Ayumu Watanabe
Mangaka(Source Material): Kamome Shirahama
Finished: May 15
4/5

This show is really beautiful. It's weirdly quiet though which I think messes with the pacing and the jokes landing but other than that, it's good. I'm reading the manga so I already am excited for the story but I think it might be slow-starting for an anime-only (based on my sister's reaction as she's watching with me).

Movies

Summer Wars (2009)
Sci-Fi Anime Film
Director: Mamoru Hosoda
Finished: April 1
4.5/5

AAAA! I really liked this movie. I thought it was an interesting critique of family structure, traditions, and what connects people... The animation is gorgeous and I love cringey concepts. I found the family a little relatable as someone with a huge family and eccentric grandmas. I was expecting a generic technophobic take but it actually explored nuance.
Belle (2021)
Sci-Fi Anime Film
Director: Mamoru Hosoda
Finished: April 8
1/5

??? That was one of the worst movies I've ever watched. Hosoda, what happened man??? I was expecting better because last week's movie was also directed by him and I loved it. Didn't really like the virtual world in this one, or the characters, and I thought it was very shallow overall. AND it was boring as hell. The music was nice though.
Suzume (2022)
Fantasy Anime Film
Director: Makoto Shinkai
Finished: April 15
4.5/5

This movie was so enjoyable and I loved the themes about grief as an individual and a community, the acceptance of the cycle of life, and growing up. The soundtrack and animation style was so great as well. I heard it was about a girl that fell in love with a man that is also a chair, so I was a bit unsure... But somehow, they made that concept work so well.
